In rememberance and awareness, Talbot Figure Skating Team partnershiped with Talbot County Department of Parks & Recreation to host a benefit public skate for Avery Bechtel's family on Saturday, September 17th from 7-9 p.m. opening day of the 2011-12 ice season. For those readers outside of Easton, that do not know Avery or her family, we have provided a link to Easton's Star Democrat. Tragicly, Avery passed away however we are proud to acknowledge TFST member, Shelby (and family/friends!) for their selfless efforts in pulling together "Avery's Angels" bracelets to help the Avery's family in this extreme time of grief and stress as Avery's family made a very brave decision to elect organ donation, giving the gift of life to another family's child(ren). Avery was a TCDP&R athlete, a patron of public ice skating, and a good friend of many of our members.

It is with this tragedy hitting so close to home, the TFST board elected our team to support Organ Donation as our focus awareness for this season. We think that this tragedy has (in the words of Tim Kearns) so many life lesson topics - Street safety, car safety, organ donation, responsibility for ones self, situational awareness, etc....Avery won't be forgotten.

The Talbot Synchronized Skating Teams hosted their second annual Spring Team Skating Clinics at The Centre Ice Rink in Harrington, DE.  The team was excited to see some new skaters and pleased to have their coaches, National Synchronized Skating Medalists, Rebecca Crotti and Larisa Frankoski teach the two sessions.

The Talbot Figure Skating Team (TFST) participated in its second District 4 competition of the season.  The individual and group skaters brought home 28 gold, 9 silver, and 5 bronze medals competing in 40 events.  The combined event points were enough to win 2nd place in overall placement above 9 other established competitive teams from Pennsylvania, Delaware, Virginia, and Maryland.

TFST locally is winding down its second full season at Talbot County Community Center ice rink, although their 2011 competitive season is just beginning.  TFST skaters will be traveling to other area rinks to continue practicing through April when the final District competition takes place in Richmond, VA.  TFST is home to an ensemble exhibition team, two competitive synchronized skating teams, and four jump/spin teams, as well as more than 30 individual figure skaters.  They are looking forward to expanding these teams in their next season.

TFST stays an active club while the local ice is down by purchasing ice at other rinks to host group skating clinics, fundraisers, and outings over the spring and summer months.  They eagerly look forward to the return of home ice as they have two admission free shows and a home ice competition planned for the 2011-12 season.

The Talbot Figure Skating Team (TFST) is proud to announce the inaugural Talbot Classic ISI Competition was a success!  First a special thank you to
Talbot County Parks & Recreation administration and staff for working with us through the planning and facility management process;  to all the TFST skaters and parents who worked many hours planning and preparing to welcome fellow ISI District IV skaters;  and Larisa Frankoski, our Competition Director - TFST can't express how thankful we are to have Larisa and her professional experience behind us as we grow as a team.  Thanks to her for guiding us through our first competition.

We cannot forget to also thank our onsite vendors:

Debuting Synchro Blue Formation and Synchro Silver Synchronized Skating teams along with their new Ensemble Group, Talbot Figure Skating Team hosted their 3rd Free Exhibition at the Talbot County Community Center. The exhibition had a fall weather theme where 40 young figure skaters, 29 of which are TFST members,  showcased their talents for the audience.  TFST thanks all the parent volunteers for their assistance in pulling together the show so early in the season.  Everyone looks forward to their next exhibition scheduled for Sunday, February 27, 2011.

March, 2010
The Talbot Figure Skating Team (TFST) participated in the two day Skate Annapolis competition.  The team was proud to have 25 skaters participate in 18 events winning 10 gold, 5 silver, and 1 bronze medals.  Congratulations to the following skaters:

Kiersten, Hailey, Elizabeth, Corynne, Savanna, Samantha, Kiera, Taylor, Kylie, Madison H., Kaitlyn, Claire, Madeline, Heidi W., Amanda D., Julia, Caitlin, Shelby, Casey, Katie, Jessica, Brynn, Becky, Heidi P. & Madison L.

In addition, TFST also held its second Figure Skating Exhibition at the Talbot County Community Center (TCCC).  Being the final weekend of ice before melting for the season, the team decorated TCCC with hundreds of underwater themed creatures to highlight their newest endeavor - an ice skating production team.  The newly formed production team performed their 'Scuba Adventure' just prior to the shows intermission sporting colorful tropical fish and jellyfish costumes.  Attendance again overwhelmed the bleacher area filling in several deep around the arena's walls.  This show not only showcased skaters from TFST, but also from the Learn to Skate Program of Talbot County Parks & Rec and our neighboring rinks, Bowie Ice Arena and The Centre Ice at Delaware State Fair.  Sixty-four skaters participated in this show; almost doubling the last exhibitions participation.  TFST is disappointed the season had to end short, but looks forward to its second full season in the Fall, 2010.

February, 2010
The Talbot Figure Skating Team recently participated in Bowie's 2010 Valentine’s Invitational. Kiersten, Hailey, Elizabeth, Corynne, Savanna, Samantha, Kiera, Taylor, Kylie, Madison H., Kaitlyn, Claire, Madeline, Heidi, Amanda D., Julia, Amanda H., Caitlin, Shelby, Casey, Katie, Jessica, Brynn, & Madison L.

November, 2009
The Talbot Figure Skating Team (TFST) held its first Figure Skating Exhibition at the Talbot County Community Center.   The TCCC ice arena was beautifully decorated in a snowflake theme to kick off the winter sports season.  Attendance overwhelmed the bleacher area at the Community Center spilling the audience around the rink to watch more than 35 figure skaters skate individually, in pairs, groups, and with the newly formed Talbot Synchronized Skating Team.  Twenty six of those figure skaters are members of TFST.  A few skaters had just begun skating this year through the 'Learn to Skate' program through Talbot County Department of Recreation, where others have been skating for several years.  TFST looks forward to hosting many more free exhibitions at the Talbot County Community Center.

April, 2009
We closed our first season as a team at the 2009 Skate Annapolis Competition at the U.S. Naval Academy's Brigade Sports Complex, and our newly formed Talbot Figure Skating Team competed in 10 events, earning 9 gold medals and one silver medal.  The Talbot Figure Skating Team (TFST) is dedicated to the advancement of our member's personal and athletic goals.  We were formed to create unity amongst our skaters; educate parents and skaters on the fundamentals of skating; to establish an identity to positively represent our home rink at Talbot County Community Center; and to initiate social activities and team bonding.  In our infancy, we are 40+ youth members strong and are continuing to grow.  Although a 'club sport', we share many similarities with other recreation teams and programs throughout the area.  The team board members and coaching staff make commitments to assist our figure skaters with training and ice time with the goal of having the Team be as competitive at the highest levels of competition as they can while having fun with this recreational sport.

Our hope is to provide a program that is enjoyable and rewarding for all participants.  All of us at TFST are working together to develop a program that will be a positive influence on our youth from not only Talbot County, but from surrounding counties as well.  In addition to learning about the sport of figure skating, we will work on the six pillars of character throughout the season.  We hope that by building well-rounded young athletes, they will be able to give back to our community in a very positive way.
